As an intermediate of the Saegusa oxidation of the silyl enol ether 1, the novel, structurally highly unusual d10 Pd0-tetraolefin complex 2 was isolated; 2 is the first complex of this type whose solid-state geometry has been fully elucidated. Apparently, the enone formed in the course of the reaction is conformationally preorganized to act as a host for the palladium atom. TMS=trimethylsilyl.
