四甲基哌啶醇是合成受阻胺类光稳定剂的重要中间体,常温下为白色晶体粉末,能溶于丙酮、乙醇、三氯甲烷等有机溶剂,微溶于水,具有吸潮性。本身也具有光稳定作用,在制药方面有重要用途。
受阻胺类光稳定剂是目前最有效的高分子材料光稳定剂,是一类具有空间位阻效应的有机胺类化合物,大部分品种均以2,2,6,6-四甲基-4-哌啶基为母体。这类高效稳定剂由日本三共公司于20世纪70年代中期研制开发,用于塑料、橡胶等高分子材料的防老化。其光稳定效果是传统吸收型光稳定剂的2~4倍,并且与许多树脂具有良好的相容性,是目前发展最快的一类稳定剂。
