This invention relates to a process for conditioning the surfaces of natural and synthetic plastic materials for electroless plating of a metal coating thereon by exposing such materials to an atmosphere comprising ozone, contacting said exposed materials with a conditioning solvent, such as an aqueous solution of sodium, potassium or lithium hydroxide, and thereafter rinsing said contacted materials with an aqueous solution of one or more surfactants.

Essentially anhydrous energetic compositions, including explosives, propellants, flares, and gas generators, are initially formed at process temperatures above the solidification temperature of contained oxidizer salts as stable, melt-in-fuel emulsions having a continuous fuel phase and discontinuous molten oxidizer phase. Surfactants are employed which cause the compositions to retain genaral fuel phase continuity and oxidizer phase discontinuity upon solidification. The final product is a firm or solid emulsion generally characterized by an intimate dispersion of discrete solid oxidizer cells in a fuel contiuum, the product having excellent storage stability and water resistance.
