Pyrrole 5 was converted into Grignard and organocuprate reagents. After addition of the latter to alkene 6, the pyrrole ring was converted to a primary amine by ozonolysis, reduction and hydrolysis.

Knoevenagel condensations between t-butylcyclohexanone and malononitrile, Meldrum's acid and ethylcyanoacetate gave electron-deficient alkenes which underwent equatorial-selective attack by chemoselective aryl organometallic reagents.
