Design of scaffold-like metal-organic coordination polymers based on dinuclear zinc(II) carboxylate complexes

Two new scaffold-like metal-organic coordination polymers, [Zn2ndc2bpe]·DMF and [Zn2ndc2dedpbp] ·4DMF (ndc is 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylate, bpe is trans-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene, and dedpbp is 4,4′-diethynyl-4″,4′″-dipyridylbiphenyl), were synthesized by heating stoichiometric amounts of zinc(II) nitrate, H2ndc, and bpe or dedpbp in DMF. The structures of the polymers were established by X-ray diffraction. Coordination of linear dicarboxylate ligands to zinc cations gives rise to planar square-grid networks, and additional coordination of the bifunctional nitrogen-containing ligands results in the formation of scaffold-like triply interpenetrating structures with a primitive cubic topology.

of the linker and the position of the reactive alkynyl group, the control of the deformation degree of the octahedral cages can be realized. These supramolecular cages exhibit enhanced third-order nonlinear optical (NLO) responses. The results offer a powerful strategy to construct novel distorted cage structures as well as control the degree of distortion of supramolecular geometries.

A method of capturing water from a gaseous composition comprising water vapour (e.g., air), the method comprising:
(a) providing a metal-organic material; and
(b) contacting the metal-organic material with water and/or water vapour;
wherein upon contact with water and/or water vapour the material switches from a first state to a second state wherein the second state is able to retain a higher amount of water than the first state.
A compound and methods of making thereof having the structure shown below is disclosed. Each Ar is an aromatic group. Each M is palladium, platinum, or rhenium. At least one X in the compound has an aliphatic having at least 1 carbon atom. Each x, each y, and each z is an integer greater than or equal to zero. Each m is an integer greater than or equal to one. n is an integer greater than or equal to three.
