Compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents a branched lower alkyl radical; R.sup.2 represents a phenyl group optionally substituted with halogeno or lower alkyl radicals; R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 represent halogeno radicals; and R.sup.5 represents a hydrogen atom or the cyano radical. These compounds are useful as insecticides.
Variant G74C of arylmalonatedecarboxylase (AMDase) from Bordatella bronchoseptica has a unique racemising activity towards profens. By protein engineering, variant G74C/V43A with a 20‐fold shift towards promiscuous racemisation was obtained, based on a reduced activity in the decarboxylation reaction and a two‐fold increase in the racemisation activity. The mutant showed an extended substrate range
Sulfonylindoline compounds of formula I,
wherein R1 through R4, Y and Z have defined meanings, a process for preparation of such compounds, and the use as pharmaceutically active substances, particularly for the treatment or inhibition of neurodegeneration, cardiovascular disease, inflammatory disease, hypercholesterolemia, dyslipidemia, obesity or diabetes.

A novel class of potent and selective or-la receptor antagonists has been identified. The structures of these antagonists were derived from truncating the 4-aryl dihydropyridine subunit present in known alpha-1a antagonists. The design principles which led to the discovery of substituted phenylacetamides, the synthesis and SAR of key analogues, and the results of select in vitro and in vivo studies are described.
