  Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Monohalogenierung von Alkylbenzolen in a-Stellung, bei dem ein Überschuß eines Alkylbenzols, das in α-Stellung mindestens ein Wasserstoffatom aufweist mit einem Halogen im Temperaturbereich von etwa 80°C bis zum Siedepunkt des eingestzten Alkylbenzols und in Gegenwart von UV-Strahlung umgesetzt wird, wobei die Halogenierung so weit durchgeführt wird, das die Konzentration des gebildeten monohalogenierten Alkylbenzols in dem aus dem Reaktionsraum abgezogenen Reaktionsgemisch nicht mehr als etwa 33 Mol-% aller im Reaktionsgemisch enthaltenen Stoffe beträgt. Einige der mit Hilfe des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens herstellbaren substituierten monohalogenierten Alkylbenzole werden als neue Stoffe beansprucht.
