Abstract Homoallylic alcohols can be obtainedfromallylation of aldehydes and ketones with allyl bromide promoted by metallic lead. These reactions can be carried out smoothly in aqueous media.
A lead-promoted allylation of carbonylcompounds with allyl bromide in a Pb/Bu4NBr/Me3SiCl/DMF system has been performed in good yields with high chemoselectivities: RCHO > R1R2CO > R1CH(OH)CO2R2>> R1CO2R2, lactone, (RCO)2O, and RCOCl.
A novel and highly efficient allylation of aldehydes using allyltributyltin has been developed in aqueous medium catalyzed by β-cyclodextrin in the presence of HCl without any metal catalysts to afford the corresponding homoallylic alcohols in good yields. The β-cyclodextrin can be recovered and reused for a number of runs without significant loss of activity.

allylation of aldehydes with allyltributylstannane using a catalytic amount of ceric ammonium nitrate in acetonitrile under mild and neutral conditions to afford the corresponding homoallyl alcohols in excellent yields with high chemoselectivity. Allylation of ketones has also been achieved with tetraallytin under similar reaction conditions.
