AbstractThe isotope selective photoaddition of ICl (A3 Π1) to acetylene giving highly chlorine‐enriched 1,2‐C2H2ICl, with enrichment factors of one hundred and purities better than 97% in a single step, was studied and its dependence on buffer gas, pressure and excitation wavelength determined. The relative amounts of the cis‐ and trans‐isomers are dependent on the excitation wavelength. Up to 70 mg of >91% chlorine‐labeled compounds were produced in a photochemical reactor.
