Mild and Phosphine-Free Iron-Catalyzed Cross-Coupling of Nonactivated Secondary Alkyl Halides with Alkynyl Grignard Reagents

cross-coupling of nonactivated secondary alkylbromides and iodides with alkynyl Grignardreagents at room temperature has been developed. A wide range of secondary alkyl halides and terminal alkynes are tolerated to afford the substituted alkynes in good yields. A slight modification of the reaction protocol also allows for cross-coupling with a variety of primary alkyl halides.
A number of 1,4-elimination reactions proceeding with concomitant fragmentation according to scheme (1) are reviewed. It is pointed out that one of the simplest cases of this mechanistic type has hitherto remained unnoticed, viz. the elimination of halogen from saturated 1,4-dihalides with formation of two olefinic bonds according to scheme (11).

Abstract The IR spectra of trans -1,4-diiodo- and trans -1,4-bromoiodocyclohexane as solutes in various solvents, as pellets and as solids under high pressure are recorded in the region 4000–30 cm −1 .
