The present invention provides processes for the preparation of artemisinin and its precursors including amorphadiene, amorphadiene epoxide, dihydroartemisinic alcohol and dihydroartemisinic acid. Specifically, artemisinin is prepared by multi-step synthetic processes from amorphadiene, amorphadiene epoxide, dihydroartemisinic alcohol or dihydroartemisinic acid.
