  The reductive coupling of ()-(+)-carvone by TiCl4-Mg-tBuOH leads to (+)-(1, 5, 1′, 5′)-carvone pinacol (70 %). In presence of pentane, (−)-(1, 5 1′ 5′)-carvone pinacol (50 %) and ketol (15 %) are isolated. Isoborneol (58 %) and borneol (32 %) result of the reduction of (+)-camphor with the same reagent.
