Multi-ring organic compounds that regulate gut motor activity, signal satiety, and reduce food intake in an individual are described Such compounds are useful to regulate food consumption and to treat conditions of excessive weight gam and obesity. labelled trichodiene (1) in Fusarium culmorum cultures have resulted in the isolation of a new metabolite, Isotrichodiol (9), that is subsequently transformed into trichothecene toxins, and thus represents the first demonstrated post-trichodieneintermediate in the biosynthetic pathway to trichothecenes.
