One-pot deacylation-debromination reactions involving the transesterification of the initial chiral beta-bromo-beta-hydroxy thioimide aldol adducts and subsequent Al-Hg mediated reductive cleavage of the C-Br bond allow for a facile synthesis of enantiopure beta-hydroxy esters.
