Sesquiterpene Synthase‐Catalysed Formation of a New Medium‐Sized Cyclic Terpenoid Ether from Farnesyl Diphosphate Analogues

Found in the ether: Sesquiterpene synthases catalyse the Mg2+‐dependent conversion of prenyl diphosphates via carbocationic intermediates. Using substrate analogues with strategically placed nucleophilic groups, we have, by design, used several sesquiterpene synthases to generate a new cyclic terpenoid ether, thus showing their potential for the biocatalytic generation of bioactive compounds.
