Compounds that inhibit proteolytic enzymes of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) are described. Preparation of the inhibitors, pharmaceutical compositions containing them, and uses of the compounds or compositions for the treatment of HIV infections are also described.
Hydroxy-substituted crownethers were prepared in one-pot synthesis by treatment of oligoethylene glycols with epichlorohydrin in the presence of alkali metals, alkali metal hydride or alkali metal hydroxides. The stability constants of complexes with sodium and potassium cations in methanol were determined.
