[Problem] The present invention provides: a composition for imparting a cooling sensation, which contains 3-menthoxy propanol; and a method for producing 3-menthoxy propanol with high selectivity and high yield using 3-menthoxy-1,2-epoxypropane as a starting material.
[Solution] The present invention relates to: a method for producing 3-menthoxy propanol with high selectivity and high yield by performing catalytic hydrogenation of 3-menthoxy-1,2-epoxypropane in the presence of a heterogeneous metal catalyst such as a cobalt, a ruthenium catalyst or a nickel catalyst; and an excellent composition for imparting a cooling sensation, which contains a mixture of 3-menthoxy-1-propanol and 1-menthoxy-2-propanol.
