By reaction of 4-tolylguanidine with the appropriate fluorinated β-diketones in the presence of sodium carbonate in a homogeneous phase, 4-trifluoromethyl-2-(4-toluidino)pyrimidines have become accessible as follows: the 6-methyl, 6-ethyl, 6-isopropyl-, 6-tert-butyl, and 6-isopentyl derivatives.
