CGP57698 (4-[3-(7-fluoro-2-quinolinyl-methoxy)phenyl-amino]-2,2-diethyl-4-oxo- butanoic acid) are responsible for the high in vitro and in vivo potency of this peptidoleukotriene antagonist of the quinoline type. This invention relates to compounds having the formula I: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is H, F or MeO, which are inhibitors of leukotriene biosynthesis. These compounds are useful as anti-asthmatic, anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, and cytoprotective agents. They are also useful in treating diarrhea, hypertension, angina, platelet aggregation, cerebral spasm, premature labor, spontaneous abortion, dysmenorrhea, and migraine.
Compounds of formula (I) and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts are provided as well as processes for the manufacture of such compounds. The compounds are useful in the treatment or prevention of inflammatory and allergic diseases.
