Fatty-aromatic esters of amino-alcohols are prepared by treating a compound of the formula <;FORM:0413599/IV/1>; in which R represents an alkyl or hydrogen, R<;1>;, R<;2>; and R<;3>; signifies alkyl (R<;2>; and R<;3>; together with the nitrogen atom may comprise a heterocyclic ring), and X stands for halogen, with a salt of a fatty-aromatic acid. Examples are given of the interaction of (1) 3-piperidino-2 : 2-dimethyl-propyl chloride and potassium tropate; (2) 3 - diethylamino - 2 : 2 - dimethyl - propyl chloride and potassium tropate, sodium d-tropate or potassium mandelate. 3 - Piperidino - 2 : 2 - dimethyl - propyl chloride is obtained by reducing a a -dimethyl-b -piperidino-propionaldehyde (see Specification 348,382) with sodium amalgam and treating the alcohol with thionyl chloride. Amino-alkyl halides of the formula given above are prepared by treating the amino-alcohols whose preparation is described in the parent Specification with halogenating agents such as thionyl chloride.;3>;2>;3>;2>;1>;FORM:0413599/IV/1>
