A highly efficient methylenecyclopentane annulation process has been developed based on the Pd(II)-mediated oxidativecyclization of omega-unsaturated alpha-cyano ketones, readily accessed via the Michael addition of 3-butenylmagnesium bromide with 2-cyano-2-cycloalkenones.
