The photolysis of 1,2,3,4-benzenetetracarboxylic dianhydride in an argon matrix produced 1,3,5-hexatriyne via C6H2 reactive intermediates, similarly to the case of the photolysis of 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic dianhydride. Formation of C6H2 reactive intermediates by elimination of CO2 and CO was discussed.
