Polysubstituted quinolines have been efficiently synthesized from nitroarenes and glycols, as reducing agents, under dioxomolybdenum(VI)‐catalysis. Interestingly, the waste reduction byproduct is incorporated into the final heterocycle. This method represents an efficient and sustainable variant of the Friedländersynthesis of quinolines.

A metal-free method for the Minisci-type arylation of heterocycles with aryl acyl peroxides has been reported. This strategy enables the rapid and simple synthesis of a series of Minisci-type adducts from commercially available starting materials without metal catalysts. A free-radical-pathway mechanism is suggested for this transformation.

A chiral phosphoric acid catalyzed asymmetrictransferhydrogenation of quinolines with regenerable dihydrophenanthridine derived by a borane-catalyzed hydrogenation of phenanthridine under H2 has been successfully realized. Despite the competition of a racemic hydrogenation pathway, a variety of tetrahydroquinolines were furnished in high yields with up to 91% ee.
