exhibited a 3D butterfly or a 2D plane structure depending on the type of heterocycle used. Extensive study of the stereoselective chemical reactivity of the butterfly shape, X‐ray analysis, DFT calculations, electrochemical/chemical oxidations, and photophysical measurements revealed that the properties of these materials included stereoselective oxidation, a rigid or flexible butterfly shape, dynamic
A new tridentate ligand based on acridine has been synthetized. The central acridine heterocycle bears two pyridine coordinating units at positions 4 and 5. The terdentate 2,7-di-tert-butyl-4,5-di(pyridin-2-yl)acridine (dtdpa) was then coordinated to a ruthenium(II) cation. The corresponding homoleptic complex could only be obtained where both ligands coordinate to the ruthenium in a fac fashion. Thus
a diarylamine, and elaboration via the 4,5‐dibromoacridone. The bromo substituents are amenable to Suzuki‐Miyaura coupling. Conversion to a 9‐chloro‐4,5‐dibromoacridine, followed by bromine‐lithium exchange, allows the preparation of a 4,5‐bis (phosphino)‐9‐chloroacridine. The 9‐chloro moiety undergoes nucleophilic aromatic substitution by methoxide or an aryloxide. One‐electron reduction of a 9‐(aryloxy)‐4
