    The present invention provides organosilicon compounds containing two trichlorosilyl groups and their preparation methods. Organosilicon compounds of formula II are prepared by reacting linear chain or cyclic olefins of formula I with trichlorosilane in the presence of quaternary organophosphonium salt as a catalyst. R 1 —HC═CH—R 2 (I) 1 In formulas I and II, R 1 and R 2 may be identical or different and represent a hydrogen atom, a linear or a cyclic C 1 -C 8 alkyl, a linear or a cyclic C 1 -C 8 alkenyl, benzyl, phenyl, a C 1 -C 8 alkyl substituted phenyl group, two functional groups between R 1 and R 2 may be covalently bonded to form a C 4 -C 8 ring with or without a carbon-carbon double bond.

    There are disclosed a process for producing a polycarbonate through transesterification which comprises using, as a polymerization catalyst, (1) a combination of a nitrogen-containing organic basic compound and a quaternary phosphonium salt, (2) a tetraarylphosphonium salt having a specific chemical structure, or (3) a quaternary phosphonium salt having a specific chemical structure and containing a branched alkyl group; and a process for producing a polycarbonate which comprises the steps of preparing a polycarbonate prepoplymer by preliminary polymerization and thereafter polymerizing the resultant prepolymer in a state of a solid phase by the use of a quaternary phosphonium salt as a catalyst. By using any of these processes it is made possible to produce, in extremely high efficiency, a high-quality polycarbonate being excellent in appearance, heat resistance, hydrolysis resistance and the like.

    A polycarbonate exhibiting excellent fluidity and moisture resistance and a process for efficiently producing the polycarbonate are provided. The polycarbonate has a main chain comprising a repeating unit represented by general formula (I): wherein R1 and R2 each represents hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 7 carbon atoms; contains 100 ppm by weight or less of a unit of a phenyl salicylate structure expressed by formula (II): in the main chain; and has a viscosity-average molecular weight of 10,000 or more. The polycarbonate is produced in accordance with a process comprising transesterification in the presence of a catalyst comprising a combination of an organic basic compound containing nitrogen and a quaternary phosphonium salt.
