Allyliczinc reagents have been prepared from sterically hindered homoallylic alcohols 10 and 13, using a novel fragmentation reaction of the corresponding zinc alkoxide, without any homocoupling products. In/InCl3-mediated addition of allyl iodide to alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds gave moderate to high yields of 1,2-addition products. The reactions covered acylic and cyclic alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds. Indium trichloride was effective for these Barbier-type allylation reactions.
