  asymmetrically substituted derivatives of 2, but seems to be considerably suppressed in polymeric matrices. The triplet energies of these compounds range from ca. 48 to 60 kcal/mol. Some of these ketocoumarins show phosphorescence spectra that suggest the presence of “frozen-in” rotamers.

  Coumarin derivatives of the general formula: wherein R is hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or an alkenyl group, R1 is hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkenyl group or an alkoxyl group, and the OR and R1 groups each are substituted at any of the 5,6, and 8 positions of the coumarin ring, and the salt thereof.
