6-tri-O-benzyl-⨿-d-galactopyranoside, separately, with tri-O-acetyl-α-l-rhamnopyranosyl bromide gave mainly α-linked disaccharide derivatives. An appreciable proportion of the ⨿-linked disaccharide was also obtained from 2.
