9,11-Didehydrogibberellin A24 has been prepared from GA3 and shown to be the biosynthetic precursor of the potent antheridiogen, gibberellin A73 methyl ester, in prothallia of the ferns Lygodium flexuosum and Lygodium circinnatum.
