AbstractBoth alkenes and cyloalkenes react with [CH3NH2]+˙. The possibilities and limitations of CI(CH3NH2) for the identification of structural isomers and for the determination of double bond positions are discussed. The quasi‐molecular ions [M+CH3NH2]+˙ are shown to fragment in a manner observed for amines under MIKE conditions rather than at 70 eVelectron impact, which suggests that one is dealing with long‐lived low‐energy species.
