  A process for the preparation of 1,3:2,4-bis (4-methylbenzylidene) sorbitol (MDBS) and 1,3:2,4-bis (3,4-dimethylbenzylidene) sorbitol (DMDBS) via a dehydrocondensation reaction is disclosed.
