A novel approach for the synthesis of (hydroxymethyl)- and (aminomethyl)-putrescines starting with furanmethanols and aminomethyl-furanmethanols is reported. The furans were converted to their 2,5-dimethoxy-tetrahydrofuran derivatives and the latter were ring-opened in acid media. The resulting carbonyl derivatives were isolated as their dioximes and the latter were then reduced to the corresponding
