  A simple and direct synthesis of polysubstituted 5-aminopyrimidines from α-azidovinyl ketones and amidines in the present of base was developed. The reactions were performed under mild conditions in good to excellent yields. Additionally a possible mechanism of 1,4-Michael addition is proposed.
