    A series of omega-alkoxy ethers were prepared with variation of the length of the aliphatic chain of suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid (SAHA, vorinostat). Eight carbon long chain analogues showed the best activity, among which several substituted benzyl ether derivatives exhibited inhibitory activity on HDAC comparable to SAHA, and antiproliferative activity on three human cell lines (NB4, H460, and HCT-116) better than SAHA. However, no significant difference in antiproliferative activity was observed between two enantiomers bearing the benzyl ether moiety. (C) 2007 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

    The action of dilute hydrogen peroxide in aqueous alkaline solutions on compounds I-VI and XX produced derivatives of 2-iminooxazolidine-4-one, VII-XI and XXI. Their structures were demonstrated by spectral comparison with hydantoin derivatives XXII, XXIV and XXV, which were prepared from 2-aminoalkanedioic acids XXVIII, XXX and XXXI by reaction with potassium cyanate, followed by ring closure induced by a mineral acid. The structure of compound X was revealed by basic hydrolysis to 2-hydroxy-1,7-heptanedioic acid (XXVII) and by conversion of the latter, in an acid medium, into a derivative of oxazolidine-2,4-dione, XXIX. To elucidate the probable mechanism of the oxidative transformation, compound IV was converted by oxidation in an acid medium into the 5-hydroxy derivative XXXII. Exposure of the latter to an alkaline medium gave compound X. Bromination of acid IV with bromine, or with a mixture of potassium bromide and bromate in an acid solution, afforded the 5-bromo derivative XXXIV. Analogously, reaction of the acid IV with a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and hydrochloric acid gave the 5-chloro derivative XXXV. Boiling the compound XXXIV in aqueous sodium hydroxide led to the acid IV and a smaller amount of compound X. Reaction of the compound X with morpholine yielded the morpholine analogue XXXVI. In the screening for antineoplastic activity, compounds XXXII and XXXVI showed weak antitumors effects with some types of experimental tumors. Compound X was quite ineffective in the general pharmacological screening.

    The invention provides coloring composition for color filters making use of a pigment, in which the dispersed state of the pigment is stable without using any surfactant, and so aggregation is hard to occur, and which permits formation of high-definition and high-quality images excellent in color rendition, transparency and contrast, and a simple production process thereof, by which the use of surfactants can be abolished, or the amount of surfactants used can be reduced to a great extent. The coloring composition for color filters is provided by using at least a coloring material obtained by coating at least part of surfaces of pigment particles with polyhydroxyalkanoate, and a dispersion medium for the coloring material.

    A construct that comprises a base material and a polyhydroxyalkanoate, wherein at least a part of the base material is coated with the polyhydroxyalkanoate, and the polyhydroxyalkanoate comprises a 3-hydroxyalkanoic acid unit other than 3-hydroxypropionic acid unit, 3-hydroxy-n-butyric acid unit, and 3-hydroxy-n-valeric acid unit. In addition, an electrostatic charge image developing toner allows to design the toner characteristics such as chargeability, flowability, stability in time and environmental stability uniform among the toners of different colors. The toner has a small particle size enough for enabling uniform dispersion and being excellent in color saturation and transparency. The toner also shows higher contribution to the environmental security. The toner includes a coloring agent of which at least a part of the surface is covered with polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA). The toner is produced by dispersing the coloring agent in aqueous medium, then fixing PHA synthesizing enzyme to the coloring agent dispersed in the aqueous medium, then adding 3-hydroxyacyl CoA, and executing a PHA synthesizing reaction to cover at least a part of the surface of the coloring agent with PHA. The toner thus obtained is used for an image forming method.
