    A series of bisoumarin (1–4) and dihydropyran (5–8) derivatives were successfully synthesized as new antibacterial agents. The molecular structures of three representative compounds 1, 5 and 7 were confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction study. Among these compounds tested toward Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus ATCC 29213), methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA XJ 75302), vancomycin-intermediate S. aureus (Mu50 ATCC 700699), and USA 300 (Los Angeles County clone, LAC), compounds 1 and 2 displayed the most potent antibacterial activity. Additionally, the HB energy in biscoumarins 1–4 was calculated by density functional theory (DFT) [B3LYP/6-31G*] method.

    A simple, efficient and ecofriendly procedure has been developed using tetrabutylammonium bromide as catalyst for the synthesis of biscoumarin and dihydropyrano[c]chromene derivatives in water and solvent-free neat conditions. The present methodology offers several advantages such as excellent yields, short reaction time and environmentally benign milder reaction conditions.

  • Chickpea leaf exudates (CLE) mediated Knoevenagel–Michael reactions for the synthesis of diketodiols and biscoumarins

    A green, highly efficient, and eco-friendly protocol for Knoevenagel–Michael addition reaction is reported in Chickpea leaf exudates (CLE) as a naturally sourced biosurfactant. The reactions between dimedone/4-hydroxycoumarins and a variety of aryl aldehydes were carried out in presence of CLE to afford diketodiols/biscoumarins. The synthetic pathway complies with several key requirements of green chemistry principles such as the employment of natural feedstock as green reaction media, ambient temperature, atom economy along with natural biosurfactant type Bronsted acids, and recyclable and biodegradable catalyst which led to a 28-fold increase in molar efficiency versus industrial standard protocols. Its dynamic phase is confirmed by the optical microscopy technique and critical micelle concentration measurement. The notable advantages of the present protocol were simple work-up procedure, high yield within short reaction time, easy separation of products, avoiding tedious column chromatography thus making the protocol environmentally friendly, sustainable, and economical.

    The invention relates to an image support medium for creation of an aesthetic image that is an work or object for display. This support medium includes a polymer in an amount sufficient to enable the image to have at least one aesthetic element. In different embodiments, the image support medium is an image support stabilizer, the polymer is a synthetic absorbent or conductive polymer, or the polymer is a transparent or synthetic translucent polymer and a property of this transparent or translucent polymer is enhanced to facilitate the creation or preservation of the image by at least one stabilizer. The invention also relates to a method for preparing this image support medium. The method includes forming a reaction mixture comprising a monomer in an amount sufficient to provide or enable the image to have an aesthetic element, and processing the reaction mixture into a 2- or 3-dimensional shape.
