An extensive series of carboxyarylindoles has been evaluated for antiinflammatory activity in the carrageenin paw edema assay. The requirements for optimal antiinflammatory activity in this series are relatively specific: a central pyrrole nucleus with (a) a 3-carboxy-4-hydroxyphenyl moiety substituted directly on the nitrogen, (b) a 2-phenyl group (R2) with a substituent of low electronegativity,

A photosensitizer [Ru(bpy)3]2+ catalyzes oxidative coupling reaction of enamines with silyl enol ethers under visible light irradiation by a Xe lamp or sunlight to produce γ-diketones. A 2e-oxidation process involved in this reaction is achieved by a combination of the photoexcited [Ru(bpy)3]2+ species and duroquinone, a 2e-acceptor.
Substituted N-aminoalkylpyrroles of the formula: ##STR1## IN WHICH X, Z, R.sub.1, -R.sub.5 and n are as defined below, and their physiologically tolerable acid addition salts are disclosed to have antiarrhythmic, central nervous system depressant, antiinflammatory and antihypertensive activity. A process for their preparation is also disclosed.
