The present invention can provide a graphene nanoribbon by a method containing fewer steps and involving reduced side reactions. The graphene nanoribbon has at least one structural unit represented by the formula:
wherein the dotted lines are the same or different and each represents no bond or a single bond; *1 represents a bonding point; *2 represents a bonding point when the dotted line bonded to *2 is a single bond; R3a, R3b, R3c, and R3d are the same or different and each represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, a (poly)ether group, an ester group, a monovalent aromatic hydrocarbon group, or a monovalent heterocyclic group; and at least one pair of R3a and R3b, and R3c and R3d, are optionally bonded together to form a ring.
