A new route to 6-deoxy-6-fluorosucrose has been developed. The process proceeds in 8 linear steps in 25% overall yield from sucrose. The steps incorporating fluorine and subsequent deprotection are quite rapid, making the procedure useful in the context of F-18-labeling for PET applications. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. hydrolysis of the 4,6-O-isopropylidene derivative and then converted into its 4,6-di-O-mesyl derivative. Selective displacement of this disulphonate with fluoride anion (from tetrabutylammonium fluoride) then afforded the 6-fluoro-4-mesylate.
