    The angularly and linearly fused acridone derivatives were synthesized and their properties were shape‐depended. The angularly fused acridone derivatives showed weakened aromaticity of the benzene ring at the turning point, whereas the linearly fused ones demonstrated stronger fluorescence intensity and better electronic couplings with potential applications in organic electronics.

  • Synthesis and antitumor activity of fused quinoline derivatives.

    Some tetracyclic quinolines (9 and 14) with a [2-methoxy-4-[(methylsulfonyl)amino]phenyl]amino side chain were prepared and their deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) intercalative properties, KB cytotoxicity, antitumor activity (P388 leukemia), and ability to induce topoisomerase II dependent DNA cleavage were investigated. The indoloquinoline derivative 9 exhibited the most potent activity (dose=6.3mg, T/C%=300) in this series. The steric structural features of the chromophores of the compounds previously and newly synthesized were studied by a computer-associated molecular graphics technique. Relationships between the steric structural features of the chromophores and biological activities are also discussed.

    The present invention addresses the problem of providing: an organic electroluminescent element which exhibits an enhanced light emitting efficiency; a lighting device and a display device, each of which is provided with said organic electroluminescent device; a light-emitting thin film; a light-emitting composition; and a light-emitting method. An organic electroluminescent element (10,101) which is provided with one pair of electrodes (105,107) and one or multiple organic layers (106) disposed therebetween and which is characterized in that both a compound which emits a thermally activated delayed fluorescence and a heavy atom compound are each contained in any of the organic layers (106), said heavy atom compound having an external heavy-atom effect of accelerating the intersystem crossing from the triplet excited state of the compound which emits a thermally activated delayed fluorescence to the singlet excited state thereof and thus enhancing the fluorescence.

    Provided are an organic electroluminescent (EL) element having high luminescent efficiency, a small aging change in luminescent intensity even after the organic EL element is stored at a high temperature together with a long luminescent lifetime at a high temperature, and a method for producing the organic EL element. Further, a display and a lighting device including the organic EL element are also provided. The organic EL element contains an organic layer provided between at least a pair of a cathode and an anode. The organic layer is formed of at least one layer including a luminescent layer, and at least one layer forming the organic layer contains at least one of the compounds represented by the general formulae (A1) to (A5).

    One objective of the present invention is to provide a coating liquid for forming a light emitting layer, which improves quantum efficiency. Another objective of the present invention is to provide: an organic electroluminescent element which is formed by means of this coating liquid for forming a light emitting layer; a lighting device, a display device and a white electroluminescent device, each of which is provided with this organic electroluminescent element; and a method for manufacturing an organic electroluminescent element. A coating liquid for forming a light emitting layer according to the present invention is used for the purpose of forming a light emitting layer, which is one of one or more organic layers held between a positive electrode and a negative electrode, and this coating liquid for forming a light emitting layer is characterized by containing a thermally activated delayed fluorescent compound.
