Concise enantioselective eleven-step syntheses leading to (―)- and (+)-trans-whiskylactones were developed. Propargyl alcohol was employed as starting material. The reaction sequences include highly diastereoselective electrophilic cyclization of γ-allenoic acids, dehydroiodination, and hydrogenation.

A highlystereoselective iodolactonization of 4‐allenoic acids with a new sterically demanding electrophilic iodination reagent to afford optically active γ‐butyrolactones has been developed.
