Bromodecarboxylation of (E)-3-aryl-2-(diethoxyphosphoryl)acrylic acids leading to diethyl (Z)-2-aryl-1-bromovinylphosphonates has been conducted for the first time. The products have been shown to be useful for the synthesis of diethyl arylethynylphosphonates.
A general and efficient method for the preparation of beta,gamma,gamma-trisubstituted-alpha-phosphono-gamma-lactams is presented for the first time. This approach is based on the Michael addition of diethyl acetamidomalonate to methyl (E)-3-aryl-2-(diethoxyphosphoryl)acrylates. Application of the phosphono-lactams obtained for the preparation of alpha-methylene-gamma-lactams is also reported. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Spontaneous Nefreaction of primary and secondary 3-aryl-2-(diethoxyphosphoryl)-4-nitroalkanoic acids has been observed for the first time. The reaction provides a general and effective, highly diastereoselective synthesis of 3-(diethoxyphosphoryl)-1-hydroxysuccinimides and 2-(diethoxyphosphoryl)-4-oxoalkanoic acids.
