The cerium(IV) ammoniumnitrate (CAN)‐catalyzed, three‐component reaction between primary amines, β‐dicarbonyl compounds, and α,β‐unsaturated aldehydes in ethanol heated to reflux, constitutes a general, one‐pot synthesis of 1,4‐dihydropyridines.
