A novel epoxyquinol analog was prepared by molecular simplification of monomeric and dimeric scaffolds. A feasible methodology for the insertion of side chains into cyclohexenone skeleton was developed. Insertion of the hydroxymethyl side chain was achieved through alpha-sulfonylcarbanion chemistry.
