Copper-mediated regioselective allylation and propargylation of 2-(n-butylthio)oxazole at the C5-position provided 2,5-disubstituted oxazoles in moderate to good yields. Subsequent removal of the n-butylthio group with deactivated W2-Raney nickel gave 5-substituted oxazoles. (C) 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
