The action of tosyl chloride on bisfluorohydrins gives the corresponding tosylates which are converted into bis(vicinal difluorinated) polyoxyethylene glycols by reaction with potassium fluoride and triethylamine tris(hydrofluoride) mixture.

The ring-opening reaction of oligoethylene glycol diglycidyl ethers using three fluorinating reagents has been realized. High regioselectivity and the greatest yields of bisfluorohydrins were obtained with potassium hydrogen fluoride.
