to produce unisolable allylchromium species which add efficiently to aldehydes or ketones with high degree of stereo- and chemoselectivity. Particularly, high threo selectivity is observed in the reaction of aldehydes and 1-bromo-2-butene and is ascribed to a chair-like six-membered transition state. Simple reduction of allylic and benzylic halides produces biallyls and bibenzyls, while gem-dibromocyclopropanes

The reaction of 1-alkylthioallylcopper reagents with allylic halides affords the SN2′ type substitution product in excellent yield. The more synthetically useful reagent, 1,3-bis(methylthio)allylcopper reagent behaves in the same fashion. Attempts to hydrolyze the vinyl sulfide moiety to an aldehyde unit is successful only in the latter case. Yomogi alcohol is synthesized stereospecifically in the

The invention provides compositions and methods for the detection of biological targets, (e.g. nucleic acids and proteins) by nucleic acid-templated chemistry, for example, by generating fluorescent polymethine dyes.
Carboindation of alkynols by allylic indium sesquihalides proceeded in DMF at 100 – 140 °C via a syn-addition; yomogialcohol was prepared in onepot by this method.

A method of screening a composition for insect control activity, comprising: providing insect cells expressing at least one receptor chosen from tyramine receptor, Or83b olfactory receptor, and Or43a olfactory receptor; adding said composition to the cells; measuring the binding affinity of said composition to the tyramine receptor or the Or43a receptor or to any two of the tyramine receptor, the Or43a receptor, and the Or83b receptor, or to all three receptors; and selecting compositions having an affinity for the receptor or receptors.
