  A perfume composition contains methyl ℓ-3,7-dimethyl-­7-hydroxyoctylideneanthranilate of the following formula (I): in an amount of 0.1 to 50 wt%, together with other conventional perfume components. Two synthesis routes are given. The compound has an orange-flower note. The composition is less allergenic and is safer than those containing the corresponding d- or dℓ-form, and it has a less irritating odor and imparts a clean and green note.
