A process is provided for the synthesis of a cyclic imide. A primary amine and a diol compound are contacted in the presence of a Ruthenium (II) complex. The Ruthenium (II) catalyst includes at least one of an alicyclic ligand, an aromatic ligand, an arylalicyclic ligand, an arylaliphatic ligand and a phosphine ligand.

assayed as substrates for the diamine oxidases from peaseedlings and pigkidney. KM and Vmax data are reported, mainly for the pea enzyme. N-Alkylputrescines and C-alkylcadaverines are generally poorer substrates than the parent compounds with up to 4500-fold reduction in Vmax. There is significantly less variation in KM values, indicating that the binding site of the pea enzyme is relatively non-specific
A 16-membered macrolide antibiotic, protomycinolideIV, was synthesized from two fragments to which the chirality was introduced by asymmetric epoxidation of the appropriately chosen allylic alcohols. A new synthesis of the Prelog-Djerassi lactonic acid from one of the intermediates of the synthesis was also carried out.
