We demonstrate the first phosphine-catalyzed intramolecular vinylogous aldol reaction (IVAR) of α-substituted enones. This strategy provides access to various pentannulated (hetero)arenes and dibenzocycloheptanones incorporated with two contiguous stereocenters, one of which is an all-carbon quaternary center.
