Cobalt-Catalyzed Cross-Coupling Reactions of Heterocyclic Chlorides with Arylmagnesium Halides and of Polyfunctionalized Arylcopper Reagents with Aryl Bromides, Chlorides, Fluorides and Tosylates
A range of aromatic organocopper or organomagnesium compounds undergo smooth cross-coupling reactions with aryl bromides, chlorides, fluorides and tosylates, leading to polyfunctionalized aromatics or heterocycles in the presence of cobalt salts (5-7.5 mol%) as catalysts. Very mild reaction conditions are needed and, in the case of cross-coupling with organocopper compounds, Bu4NI (1 equiv) and 4-fluorostyrene (20 mol%) are essential as promoters for successful couplings.

The present invention is directed to novel dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-one compounds useful as S-nitrosoglutathione reductase (GSNOR) inhibitors, pharmaceutical compositions comprising such compounds, and methods of making and using the same.
A unique effect of styrene additive on product selectivity was observed for RuH2(CO)(PPh3)3-catalyzed C−H arylation of acetophenone derivatives bearing two ortho C−H bonds. Without styrene, the C−H arylation with arylboronates gives diarylation products as the major products throughout the reaction, but the use of styrene as an additive switches the product selectivity and leads to selective formation
RuHCl(CO)(PiPr3)2, CsF, and a styrene derivative was found to be applicable to selective monoarylation of aromatic ketones via ortho C-H bond cleavage. The reaction of 2'-methoxyacetophenone with arylboronates gave C-H arylation products without cleaving the ortho C-O bond. Acetophenone was also converted to monoarylation products with high selectivity. Cyclohexanone was found to be an effective solvent
